Junior Leaders Academy Program

Theme: Empowering Young Minds for Success

Dates: July 1st to 3rd 8am - 5pm, 8th to 12th, 8am - 1pm

Leader Group: 8-10 young adults, ages 13-15

Mission: Provide 6 - 10 year old campers with a safe space to learn new skills while modeling a positive, engaged, and enthusiastic attitude.

Week 1: July 1-3, 8 am- 5 pm

  • SQ Training; Journaling, presentations, public speaking, first aid certification

  • Volunteering: Willimantic soup kitchen, Covenant Church, Airline Trails

  • Off-campus trips: DEI training (trip to Pequot Museum)

WEEK 2: July 8-12, 8:30 am- 1 pm

8:00 Drop-off at Strong Field House, Pomfret School

8:15 Morning meeting/ tennis pavillion

  • Debrief about the day's schedule & activities

  • Restorative circle activity (discussion-based topics: what is expected of you as a volunteer/leader; mini-camp training

8:30 Activities Facilitation

  • Skill Offering: New skills include self-presentation, arts & crafts (puzzles, building Lego), sports (tennis, basketball, soccer) and reading (at Pomfret Public Library).

Each day will have a selected skill set: collaboration, public presentation, communication/ conversations

Activities will focus on team building exercises that promote social-emotional growth.

  • Break Out Sessions: Facilitate a discussion with an area professional (3 rotations): Nurse, Doctor, Vet, Architect, Business owner, Athletic Director, HOS/ Principal, Musician, Artist.
